ROADS is a charitable organisation that has been established to address regional disadvantage by providing opportunities for young people to access training and employment in their local communities.
The ROADS model of providing job ready trainees for trainee ready employers will serve to ensure that young people have the necessary support and training in order to be successful in their traineeship and hence their employment. By working with both young people and employers then the traineeship has a much stronger chance of being successful and young people will get the chance to secure appropriate and meaningful employment.
ROADS is keen to work with corporate partners in order to provide the necessary supports to ensure that young people will be able to complete their traineeships as underlying emotional and social support needs are being addressed.
To achieve this ROADS does the following:
- -Provides comprehensive induction training;
- -Links all trainees into a peer support network;
- -Links all trainees with a local mentor who will provide the ongoing support during the two years of the traineeship.
Corporate partners are needed to work with ROADS to provide the Mentor Support Programme. Monies secured by corporations will be utilised to provide an honorarium to mentors in order to provide the necessary support services. Mentors will be either individual community members or appropriate community support agencies.
The mentor honorarium ensures that:
- -Funds are invested in regional communities;
- -Mentors are not out of pocket as a result of the support they provide;
- -Local volunteers and community agencies are appropriately resourced to undertake the important role of supporting local young people in their training and employment needs.
- -We provide a cost effective method for providing much needed support services, by not relying exclusively on volunteer effort and commitment.
