The ROADS Foundation has been established to address workforce shortages in the civil-construction industry, by developing, coordinating and facilitating traineeship programmes for regional young people in road construction and maintenance.
The road industry has an aging technical workforce and faces strong competition in attracting young people to the industry.
ROADS operates as a coordinating/management group. We link in job-ready trainees with trainee-ready employers in the civil-construction industry, including Main Roads WA, private contractors and Local Government.
We do this by providing education, training and support to both trainees and employers and we have a dedicated staff member for both employers and trainees.
The ROADS Trainees' Support Coordinator ensures trainees are job-ready through:
- -sourcing trainees by developing collaborations with local support agencies assisting young people;
- -providing trainees with initial pre-traineeship induction;
- -linking them into a peer network following induction;
- -linking them into mentors, which are resourced by ROADS's to help the trainee adjust to work life and offer additional support on career orientated goals and matters.
- -providing ongoing support in all trainee matters.
The ROADS Employer Support Coordinator ensures employers are trainee-ready through:
- -providing training and information to supervisors in managing young people;
- -providing training and information to employers in providing on-the-job training;
- -providing assistance in developing and completing training plans and other training requirements for trainees;
- -providing information, support and assistance to employers in administering trainees, relevant support agencies and sourcing any rebates.
